The Family Room is a place for students’ family members to
come for a cup of coffee or tea, to meet other parents, learn how to be
involved in the school, and to get information about community resources.
Long
time staff Thao Lor Lee, Neftali Ramirez, and Mary Sellers serve as liaisons
between school and home. Family Room staff, which includes bilingual Spanish
and Hmong staff, organizes family events at school, helps families by
scheduling conferences with interpreters, encourages parent involvement in the
school’s PTO and Site Council, and makes home visits to school families.Staff in this nationally recognized program
work to eliminate barriers to family involvement and student success by
creating a safe and welcoming place for school families.
